A report from ‘Hollywood Reporter’ confirms that CBS has ordered a spin-off of Big Bang Theory. Iain Armitage is the actor who will play young Sheldon in the prequel. As well as Zoe Perry will play young Sheldon’s mother, Mary Cooper.
It is supposedly going to be a prequel titled ‘Young Sheldon’. The original show is primarily centered on five characters living in Pasadena, California: Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, both physicists at Caltech, who share an apartment; Penny, a waitress and aspiring actress who later becomes a pharmaceutical representative and who lives across the hall; and Leonard and Sheldon’s similarly geeky and socially awkward friends and co-workers, aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali. The geekiness and intellect of the four men are contrasted for comic effect with Penny’s social skills and common sense.
“The project will revolve around a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper as he lives with his family in East Texas and goes to high school,” according to THR. “The concept was originally described as Malcolm in the Middle with a young Sheldon. Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Montana Jordan have also joined the cast.”
According to THR, “Revord will play a young version of Sheldon’s twin sister Missy; Barber will play George, Sheldon and Missy’s father and Mary’s husband; and Jordan will play George Jr., Sheldon’s older brother.”
The detail has also emerged about Parsons, who will narrate the show as “Adult Sheldon.” The premier date for the prequel is yet to be announced.
